We are pleased to announce that we have achieved an excellent result during our latest Specialist Quality Mark (SQM) accreditation audit.
The SQM is owned by the Legal Aid Agency and in order for our Firm to retain its SQM accreditation, we are independently audited every three years.
During the audit, many areas of our business operations are scrutinised including:
• Access to Service
• Seamless Service
• Running the Organisation
• People Management
• Running the Service
• Meeting Clients’ Needs
• Commitment to Quality
All of these areas are thoroughly and independently reviewed, and we are delighted that the Firm only had one corrective action stemming from the audit. In addition, there were many areas where the Firm received praise from the auditor as can be seen from the below comments, extracted from the auditor’s report:
Executive Summary
MJC Law is a three Director firm with offices in Nottingham and Leeds. The firm was founded in 2018 and specialises in Court of Protection, Community Care and Mental Health Law. The firm was founded by the Directors to provide niche quality legal services to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in society and those suffering mental health problems.
The firm is very modern and has a comprehensive and user friendly case management system.
Quality systems within the firm were already noted as being very good during the 2018 audit but have managed to improve since a new Practice Manager has been appointed.
The firm won Legal Aid Law Firm of the Year this year (2021) and clearly this was very well deserved.
Seamless Service
The firm has an excellent reputation and receives a high number of requests for it to act.
Running the Organisation
Financial safeguards and reporting are very extensive.
People Management
The firm highly values its staff and has introduced a range of new employment policies which include paid kitten/puppy leave, duvet days and parental bereavement leave. It also has a menopause policy.
The training resources provided to staff are excellent. All interviewed junior staff felt very well supported and encourage to pursue training opportunities.
Commitment to Quality
The firm has an excellent complaints record.
Kate Jackson one of our founding Directors said, “since MJC Law’s inception in 2018, we have strived to create a high-quality, inclusive and forward-thinking firm for the benefit of both employees and clients. We are therefore absolutely delighted that our achievements continue to be independently recognised by those outside of the Firm.”
