Expertise
Helen is an experienced Practice Manager with extensive expertise in legal aid practice management, compliance, operational management and Legal Aid Agency contract administration.
With over two decades of experience in the legal sector, Helen has held senior management and compliance positions within both regional and national law firms. Prior to joining MJC Law, Helen worked as Head of Compliance at a national law firm and has spent much of her career supporting firms operating within the legal aid sector.
Helen’s role encompasses regulatory compliance, risk management, HR, finance, legal aid contract management, operational oversight and business administration. She works closely with the firm’s directors to ensure that MJC Law continues to deliver high-quality legal services whilst maintaining the highest standards of compliance and governance.
Helen is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and a qualified HR practitioner.
Outside of MJC Law, Helen is actively involved in supporting the wider legal profession. She is Chair of Nottingham Law Society’s Education and Training Committee, a member of the Legal Aid Practitioners Group (LAPG) Advisory Committee and a member of Nottingham Law School’s Advisory Board.
Achievements
Helen is currently shortlisted for the 2026 Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards (LALYs) in the Legal Aid Support Staffer category. The awards ceremony will take place on 3 July 2026, when the winner will be announced.
Helen was also shortlisted for the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards in 2024, recognising her significant contribution to the legal aid sector and access to justice.
In 2022, Helen was awarded Nottinghamshire Law Society’s Practice Manager of the Year Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to legal practice management.
As Chair of Nottingham Law Society’s Education and Training Committee, Helen is passionate about supporting the development of future legal professionals and promoting opportunities within the legal sector. She is also a strong advocate for legal aid and access to justice and is proud to contribute to national discussions through her involvement with the Legal Aid Practitioners Group.
Outside of work, Helen enjoys Pilates, spending time with her husband Gavin and her four children, and pursuing her long-standing interest in spiders and insects. She is a member of both the British Arachnological Society and the Amateur Entomologists’ Society.
