Expertise

Martin specialises in mental health law in the Nottingham office working alongside Alison Ward. He has been dedicated to legal aid work since graduating from De Montfort University, Leicester with a 2:1 law and psychology degree. After completing the Legal Practice Course in 2003, he spent the next two years practising in education and welfare benefits law before moving into specialising in mental health law in 2006. He achieved The Law Society mental health accreditation panel membership status in 2008 enabling him to represent patients at mental health Tribunals, which he continues to do.

Martin has a vast experience in representing patients subject to all sections of the Mental Health Act before the First-Tier mental health Tribunal. He strives to assist and represent patients in a sympathetic, informed way proving them with clear and honest advice and information regarding the Tribunal and their detention to empower them to work towards their ultimate goals.

Martin joined MJC Law in October 2025 and represents patients predominantly in the East Midlands, Chesterfield and Lincolnshire area.

When not working, Martin is an avid runner both in road and trail events in varying distances and has completed numerous half and full marathons including the six Abbott World major marathons. He also enjoys walking, socialising and travelling with his wife and friends.
